The question of human stem cell treatments is one I get asked often as I travel around the country.  The answer is yes, but don’t pick up the phone to call your doctor quite yet.  The process for people takes considerably longer than stem cell treatments for dogs and is filled with red tape that is both political and scientific.

According to Stem Cell Summit, over 30,000 patients have been treated with stem cells in the last four years in the United States alone.  Most of these were bone marrow transplants but 3,000 of them received transplants of their own stem cells and 1,000 received cultured stem cells.

There are dozens of overseas stem cell centers, but many have come under fire for failure to provide adequate disclosures and data about success and failure.  One of the best sites for information about successes and treatments is the Adult Stem Cell Research Network .
